Job Description
Reporting to senior management, the Chief Accountant will spearhead financial management functions and ensure the effective implementation of financial systems and policies. Key tasks will include managing financial planning and analysis, leading month-end and year-end closures, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring tax and statutory compliance, and overseeing internal and external audits. The Chief Accountant will also lead financial oversight for special projects, manage inventory and revenue tracking, and provide mentorship to the finance team. A deep understanding of the hospitality industry and strong ERP and leadership skills are essential.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for financial efficiency.
Oversee timely and accurate financial reporting for strategic decision-making.
Supervise payroll, cash management, and general ledger maintenance.
Approve disbursements and ensure the accuracy of financial documentation.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax obligations (VAT, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF, etc.).
Advise management on tax risks and oversee audit recommendation implementation.
Develop and enforce internal control systems to safeguard assets.
Maintain audit trails and coordinate with auditors.
Monitor cash flow and manage departmental fund utilization.
Support financial planning for special projects and track costs and resources.
Oversee stock control, revenue audits, and daily revenue tracking.
Approve key financial reports and ensure timely revenue recognition.
Mentor finance staff and support succession planning.
Enhance financial literacy across leadership and contribute to strategic planning.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance).
Certified Public Accountant (CPAK), registered with ICPAK.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role within a 4- or 5-star hotel, preferably with an international brand.
Proficient in hospitality ERP systems such as Micros, Opera, and Sun Systems.
Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
Strong analytical, prioritization, and time management skills.
High integrity, ethical conduct, and strong leadership.
Effective team leader and collaborative team player.
