About the Role: Attorney
As a Redeem Attorney, you will play a pivotal role in representing victims of violence—especially widows and orphans—within Uganda’s criminal, civil, and administrative justice systems. You will work alongside law enforcement and legal actors in the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS), while contributing to a culture of Christian excellence.

How to Apply
1. Legal Casework
Support Redeem’s intervention strategy with the casework team
Screen and advise potential clients during intake
Guide investigations in collaboration with Redeem staff and Uganda Police
Ensure all proceedings are trauma-informed through coordination with social workers
Review evidence and witness statements for legal viability
Present cases to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP)
Draft legal submissions, correspondence, and conduct legal research
Support or lead prosecutions where necessary
Represent clients in civil and land matters, including estate administration and land demarcation
2. Capacity Building
Build strong working relationships with State Attorneys and DPP Prosecutors
Offer case support and legal mentoring to JLOS counterparts
Facilitate training, workshops, and equipping projects to enhance legal practice
Participate in JLOS coordination meetings and local stakeholder forums
Advocate on behalf of Redeem and DPP with justice sector leadership
Contribute to broader community outreach and legal education
3. General Support
Participate in Redeem’s internal spiritual formation and professional development activities
Support internal systems development, documentation, and team collaboration
Engage external stakeholders (donors, media, partners) about Redeem’s work
Provide clerical or administrative assistance as needed
Carry out other duties as assigned
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Mubende Team Lead, with collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience
Required:
Law degree, LDC completion, and valid Ugandan Practicing Certificate
Minimum 2 years in active criminal or civil litigation
Preferred:
5+ years of legal practice
Familiarity with property-related casework
Experience as a DPP Prosecutor or with JLOS institutions
Skills
Required:
Fluency in English and Luganda, both written and spoken
Strong legal research, analysis, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills
Computer literacy and comfort with word processing and email systems
Preferred:
Mastery of Ugandan criminal, land, and estate law
Proficiency in Google Workspace and digital collaboration tools
Public speaking or teaching experience
