Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following vacancy in Yumbe District Local Government. Applications on PSC Form 3 (revised 2008) in triplicate, together with 3 recent coloured passport size photos copies of academic documents (transcripts and Certificates), National Identity Cards, Registration Certificate and other relevant documents should reach the Secretary, District Service Commission Yumbe, P.O. Box 1, Yumbe not later than 5th April 2024 (5:00 pm).
Hand written applications accompanied with curriculum vitae and all the above requirements can also be accepted. PSC Form 3 can be obtained from the Secretary DSC Yumbe, or any nearby District, or Public Service Commission, Kampala.
Prenatal Care: Provide comprehensive prenatal care to pregnant women, including conducting prenatal assessments, monitoring maternal and fetal health, and providing education on pregnancy, childbirth, and infant care.
Intrapartum Care: Assist women during labor and childbirth, providing emotional support, pain management techniques, and medical interventions as necessary to ensure a safe and positive birth experience.
Postnatal Care: Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including monitoring recovery, assessing breastfeeding, and providing education on newborn care, maternal health, and contraception.
Neonatal Care: Assess the health and well-being of newborns, provide neonatal resuscitation if necessary, and monitor for signs of complications or developmental issues.
Family Planning: Provide counseling and education on family planning methods, contraceptive options, and reproductive health to women and their partners.
Health Promotion: Promote maternal and child health by providing education on nutrition, hygiene, immunizations, and other preventive healthcare measures.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including prenatal charts, labor and delivery records, postpartum assessments, and newborn assessments.
Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, including obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, and support staff, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for mothers and infants.
Emergency Response: Respond to obstetric emergencies, such as postpartum hemorrhage or fetal distress, by initiating emergency protocols, providing immediate interventions, and coordinating transfer to higher levels of care if necessary.
Professional Development: Stay abreast of current evidence-based practices, guidelines, and protocols in midwifery care through continuing education, training programs, and professional development activities.
Education: A bachelor's degree in nursing (BScN) from an accredited institution is typically required. Additionally, some positions may require further specialization or certification in midwifery.
Licensure/Certification: Candidates must be registered nurses and licensed to practice by the relevant nursing regulatory body in their country. Additionally, certification in midwifery is often required.
Experience: Prior experience working as a registered nurse, preferably in a maternity or obstetrics/gynecology setting, is usually required. The specific years of experience may vary depending on the employer and the level of the position.
Midwifery Skills: Strong knowledge and skills in midwifery practice, including antenatal care, intrapartum care, postnatal care, and newborn care, are essential.
Clinical Skills: Proficiency in various clinical procedures related to midwifery, such as prenatal assessments, childbirth assistance, neonatal resuscitation, and postpartum care, is necessary.
Communication Skills: Effective communication skills are crucial for providing education, counseling, and support to pregnant women, new mothers, and their families.
Compassion and Empathy: Assistant Nursing Officers (MW) should possess compassion, empathy, and sensitivity to the physical and emotional needs of pregnant women and new mothers.
Teamwork: The ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, pediatricians, and other nurses, is important for ensuring comprehensive care for mothers and infants.
Critical Thinking: Assistant Nursing Officers (MW) must be able to assess complex situations, make informed decisions, and provide appropriate interventions in a timely manner.
