Job Description
Reporting to the Deputy Director – Finance and Accounts, the Accounts Assistant I will be responsible for handling various financial duties such as balancing the cash book, maintaining proper filing systems, processing payments, reconciling bank statements, managing petty cash, and assisting in budgetary and procurement activities. The role is critical in ensuring accurate financial documentation and compliance with accounting standards and public sector regulations.

How to Apply
Maintaining and accounting for petty cash to ensure proper fund usage
Verifying and examining vouchers in line with applicable rules and guidelines
Entering primary financial data and conducting routine accounting tasks
Keeping efficient and organized filing systems for financial documentation
Safekeeping invoices, receipts, imprest warrant books, and other accountable records
Processing payments and imprest, including claims and surrenders
Performing monthly bank reconciliations
Supporting the generation of procurement plans and budget proposals
Daily posting and balancing of the cash book
Assisting with the maintenance of the fixed asset register
Ensuring adequate office cash float is available
Handling banking transactions and issuing receipts for transactions
CPA-K (Certified Public Accountant of Kenya) or an equivalent qualification
Membership in ICPAK (Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya) in good standing
KCSE minimum mean grade of C+ or equivalent
Experience:
At least seven (7) years of relevant work experience
Additional Requirements:
Proficiency in accounting software (ERP), with hands-on experience in IFMIS being an added advantage
Knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS)
Certificate in computer applications
Core Competencies:
Accuracy and attention to detail
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities
Knowledge of public sector financial procedures
High integrity and professionalism
