About the Organisation
Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority (UFZEPA) is a statutory government agency established under the Free Zones (Amendment) Act No. 30 of 2024. Formed through the merger of the Uganda Free Zones Authority and the Uganda Export Promotion Board, UFZEPA operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives. The Authority is mandated to oversee the establishment, development, management, marketing, maintenance, supervision, and control of free zones, as well as the development, promotion, and coordination of all export-related activities in Uganda.
UFZEPA aims to stimulate foreign investment, enhance export competitiveness, create employment opportunities, and drive sustainable economic growth by providing a conducive environment for businesses. Job Description
REFERENCE No: UFZEPA/EXT/2024/25/ACC -1
Job Title: Assistant Accountant
Salary Scale: UFZEPA - 6
Reports to: Accountant
Terms: Three (3) Year Contract (Renewable upon satisfactory performance)
Job Purpose: To carry out basic accounting processes and support processing of general payments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Providing custody for accounting records and documents;
Processing deferred tax payments, tax returns and keep records thereof;
Posting financial transactions, cashbooks, subsidiary ledgers to General ledger and maintain up-to-date record of books of accounts;
Preparing and reconciling payroll transaction reports;
Entering transactions into the commitment control register;
Keeping custody of cash/imprest, effect payments, and maintain up-to-date cash book records; and
Preparing draft monthly reconciliation reports.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
a) Academic Qualifications
Either:
i) A Diploma in Accounting or Business Studies /Administration with Accounting obtained from a recognised awarding institution
Or
ii) Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with Pre-Professional Accounting qualification like: Accounts Technician Certificate (ATC) or, Certificate in Accounting Technician (CAT) awarded from recognized professional body accredited by Institute of Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
