Job Description
The Agricultural Specialist is responsible for providing expert advice and support in the field of agriculture. This role involves managing agricultural projects, conducting research, advising on best practices, and supporting sustainable farming initiatives. The specialist will work closely with farmers, agricultural organizations, and other stakeholders to optimize productivity, improve crop yields, and promote environmental sustainability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Agricultural Project Management
Plan, execute, and oversee agricultural projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for agricultural programs.
Monitor and evaluate project progress, providing reports and recommendations for improvements.
Advisory and Technical Support
Provide expert advice and guidance to farmers on crop selection, cultivation techniques, pest control, irrigation systems, and soil health.
Develop and deliver training programs on modern agricultural practices and sustainable farming techniques.
Assist farmers in adopting new technologies, machinery, and tools to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Research and Analysis
Conduct research on emerging agricultural trends, innovations, and technologies.
Analyze data on crop performance, soil health, and farming practices to recommend improvements.
Stay updated on government policies, agricultural regulations, and global agricultural trends.
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship
Promote environmentally sustainable farming practices, including soil conservation, water management, and pest control.
Advise on sustainable crop rotation, organic farming, and reducing environmental impact through responsible farming practices.
Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with agricultural organizations, government agencies, and community stakeholders to promote agricultural development.
Represent the organization at agricultural forums, workshops, and conferences.
Reporting and Documentation
Prepare regular reports on project progress, outcomes, and challenges.
Document best practices, case studies, and success stories to share within the organization and with stakeholders.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Details
Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics or a related field..
Proven experience of 3-5years in product management, agricultural finance, or value chain development.
Familiarity with the agricultural sector and the unique challenges faced by smallholder farmers.
Strong analytical, project management, and strategic planning skills.
