Job Description
The Accounting Officer will be responsible for processing, maintaining, and reporting on all fixed asset transactions in compliance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS). The role involves preparing reconciliations, ensuring data integrity, and providing support across Standard Bank South Africa, its regional offices, and subsidiaries. This position plays a key part in the financial control environment, supporting accurate and timely reporting, as well as safeguarding company assets.
The incumbent will collaborate with stakeholders, handle asset queries, support audit requirements, and contribute to system enhancements that improve asset tracking and management. The role also includes preparing financial statements and ensuring all activities are aligned with the organization’s accounting policies.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain and manage fixed asset records and systems
Perform accurate asset capitalization, depreciation, and disposal entries
Prepare monthly reconciliations and reports
Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies
Resolve asset-related queries efficiently
Support audits by preparing required documentation and explanations
Collaborate with finance teams across regions and subsidiaries
Contribute to process improvements and system updates
Control and mitigate risks related to fixed asset transactions
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualification:
First Degree in Business Commerce, Finance, or Accounting
Experience Required:
3–4 years of experience in accounting or finance
In-depth understanding of IFRS and financial control procedures
Experience in a financial institution is essential
