Uganda
The Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project is a five-year initiative by the Government of Uganda, funded by a $217 million grant from the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA). Its mission is to increase access to entrepreneurial services that enable female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in targeted locations, including refugee-hosting districts. Implemented collaboratively by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), GROW has garnered recognition for its commitment to women's economic empowerment and poverty reduction.
The project fosters an inclusive and supportive work culture, offering opportunities for professionals passionate about gender equality and economic development. Job opportunities within GROW are periodically advertised by MGLSD and PSFU, with work arrangements varying based on specific roles and responsibilities. Since its inception, GROW has evolved to address challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, such as limited access to finance, markets, and skills, by providing integrated services including training, business advisory, and affordable loans through participating financial institutions.
With a goal to support over 39,000 female-owned enterprises and benefit approximately 1.6 million people, GROW's core values encompass empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainability. The project also emphasizes corporate social responsibility by focusing on community development and support for refugee and host communities.
