Job Title: Female Graduate Engineering Intern – 2 Positions

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary:
Under the guidance of the WASH Engineer, the graduate Intern is responsible for conducting technical assessments, supervising the construction of drilling and rehabilitation works, coordinating and participating in community mobilization and sensitization on proper use of WASH facilities.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in conducting technical assessments for WASH and Environmental Sanitation needs of the targeted communities and participate in designing appropriate intervention strategies.
Support in supervising the construction of drilling and rehabilitation works to ensure adherence to technical standards and specifications, monitor contractor’s performance and document progress.
Regularly visit sites alongside WASH Engineer and Project Officers to monitor activity progress, identify gaps and, provide on-site guidance to avoid errors and delays.
Participate in water quality testing and inspection of sanitation facilities.
Ensure quality control on sites by regular and stringent supervision of contractors in the project areas.
Ensure safety standards and environmental protection measures are followed at project sites.
Collect technical data (GPS coordinates, Functionality reports, beneficiary numbers).
Prepare field reports, photographic documentation, and contractor supervision reports.
Support in updating project tracking tools and databases.
Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on proper use and maintenance of the WASH facilities.
Work with Water User Committees (WUCs) to promote community ownership and sustainability.
Collaborate with community structures to collect feedback and address minor technical concerns.
Assist community members in developing Operations and Maintenance (O&M) plans for established water points, ensuring their effective management.
Work with community structures to ensure regular and routine collection and proper utilization of water user fees, crucial for the maintenance and repair of water facilities.
Liaise with local stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and community leaders to foster collaborative relationships and align project goals with local development plans.
Liaise with district technical line departments to develop and enhance community-based management of Water and Sanitation facilities.
Participating in district and WASH meetings and other relevant coordination meetings.
Plan, organize, and ensure effective implementation of community awareness programs on Water and Sanitation.
Lead awareness campaigns on the project’s objectives and donor requirements, ensuring community understanding and buy-in.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering/Water Engineering/Public Health Engineering course from a recognised university and completed in the past one year.
Certificate/testimonial showing they have completed their course.
No experience required.
Interested in pursuing a career in the WASH sector in rural water supply and the O&M of rural water supply.
The ability to communicate effectively in English and Luo is a must especially demonstrated proficiency in both written and spoken.
