Job Title: Writer and Project Officer
Industry: Media (Legal)
Location: Kampala, Uganda (with remote work flexibility)
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Content Writing and Development:
Write compelling and precise news stories, articles, and reports related to the justice sector for a broad audience.
Simplify complex legal concepts to make them clear and accessible to diverse readers.
Collaborate with editors, legal experts, and contributors to produce high-quality, relevant content.
Stay up-to-date with trends in the justice sector, court rulings, policy changes, and key events to deliver timely and insightful articles.
Ensure consistency in tone, style, and messaging across all company platforms and publications.
2. Project Coordination:
Plan, execute, and monitor projects that align with the company’s mission, including special reports, campaigns, and events.
Coordinate and facilitate webinars, workshops, and panel discussions to encourage public engagement with justice sector topics.
Collaborate with partners, journalists, and legal professionals to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Support the development and optimization of the company’s digital tools and platforms to boost audience engagement.
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact between the company, contributors, partners, and the public.
Build and nurture strong relationships with stakeholders, fostering productive partnerships.
Write newsletters, press releases, and other communications to engage and inform the company’s audience.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
Design and implement frameworks to assess the success of projects and content.
Gather feedback from audiences and stakeholders to refine content and improve future initiatives.
Prepare detailed reports on project progress, outcomes, and provide recommendations for growth and impact.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Law, or a related field. Additional qualifications in Project Management or Media Studies are a plus.
At least 2 years of experience in writing or journalism.
Exceptional writing and editorial skills, with strong attention to detail and command of the English language.
Ability to distill complex legal or justice-related information into engaging and accessible content.
Proven project management experience, with a track record of planning, coordinating, and executing initiatives.
Familiarity with digital content tools, project management software, and analytics platforms is an advantage.
Experience in legal journalism, justice reporting, or public communications.
Knowledge of the justice system in Uganda and the broader East African region is desirable.
A passion for making legal and justice-related information accessible and impactful.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
