Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transcribe Swahili audio recordings into accurate written text
- Capture slang, code-switching, and dialectal expressions faithfully
- Flag unclear audio segments and provide contextual notes where needed
- Maintain consistent formatting and follow our style guide
- Deliver completed transcripts within assigned deadlines
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Person Specifications / Qualifications:
- Native or near-native fluency in Kiswahili (spoken and written)
- Fluency in at least one of the following:
- Nairobi Sheng
- A Kenyan or Tanzanian tribal language (e.g., Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kamba, Kalenjin, Chaga, Haya, etc.)
- Sharp attention to detail — you catch the small stuff others miss
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace
- Ability to use headphones and transcription software
- Prior transcription, translation, or subtitling experience (Nice to Have)
- Experience with linguistic annotation or data labelling for AI/ML projects (Nice to Have)
