DEPARTMENT: Finance

JOB TITLE: Subsidiary Accountant (1 Vacancy)

REPORTS TO: Senior Subsidiary Accountant

JOB PURPOSE: The Subsidiary Accountant is responsible for managing the financial accounting affairs of UNOC’s subsidiary companies.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts within the set timelines, adhering to company policies and accounting procedures.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and the year-end reporting pack.

  • Contribute to the preparation of all project reports.

  • Oversee inter-company transactions between the parent company (UNOC) and its subsidiaries.

  • Manage cost allocations between UNOC and its subsidiaries.

  • Perform day-to-day inter-company control account reconciliations.

  • Support the statutory audit process by providing necessary schedules and reconciliations, coordinating with staff required by auditors, and compiling management responses to audit findings.

  • Prepare local statutory financial reports.

  • Implement assigned audit actions for subsidiary businesses.

  • Assist subsidiaries in implementing a controls framework.

  • Participate in year-end stock takes for subsidiaries.

  • Monitor and report on the progress of capital projects for subsidiaries on a monthly basis.

  • Support Subsidiary General Managers in managing risks.

  • Develop and maintain fixed asset registers for subsidiaries.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor(s).

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.

  • Full professional membership in ACCA / CPA.

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a finance role within a reputable and busy corporate organization.

  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; SAP experience is an advantage.

  • General knowledge of the Oil & Gas value chain is a plus.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Strong professionalism and confidentiality.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Expertise in financial accounting and general ledger reconciliations.

  • Proficiency in financial reporting and accounting controls.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Expert knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

  • Knowledge and application of IFRS and other relevant accounting standards.

  • Familiarity with Uganda's tax laws.

  • Understanding of joint venture, subsidiary, and intercompany accounting.

  • Knowledge of integrated planning and budgeting processes.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
