Job Description
Reporting to the Manager, Mining and Geo-technical Engineering, the Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for designing short- to mid-term mine plans for effective ore extraction based on geological data. The role includes forecasting, budget management, technical coordination, and performance monitoring. The position requires collaboration with geology, operations, and technical teams to ensure the successful execution of mining strategies, and continuous updates to the Life-of-Mine model based on evolving geological information. The engineer will also play a pivotal role in optimizing production, developing schedules, supporting operational decisions, and ensuring compliance with standards and safety practices.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design short- to mid-term mine plans for the economic extraction of ore based on the geological block model and budget mine plan.
Complete quarterly forecasts and generate physical estimates.
Compile and manage the capital budget and forecasts as needed.
Support the development of Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve (MRMR) reports.
Coordinate with geology, mine operations, and technical teams to ensure tactical targets are met.
Maintain and update the Life-of-Mine (LoM) model with current designs and geological data.
Review and approve new mine designs before production, ensuring alignment with mine standards.
Optimize production through design, planning, and scheduling activities.
Analyze and reconcile monthly and quarterly stope performance and plan compliance.
Provide technical support to operations including mine plan and schedule development.
Identify and evaluate ideas for business improvement.
Perform mid-term planning and other ad-hoc duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An Honours Degree in Geology, Mining Engineering, Mineral Economics, Mine Surveying, or Geoscience from a recognized institution.
A Master’s Degree in Geosciences, Mineral Policy and Law, Mineral Economics, Regulation and Management of Mining, Environmental Management, or Natural Resource Management is an added advantage.
Professional Engineer registration (if applicable).
At least six (6) years of experience in mine planning, design, or operations for underground and opencast mining.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of Greek, IGF Mining Regulation, and other international mining best practices.
Strong commitment to safe working practices.
Ability to work effectively in teams and independently.
High level of responsibility and ownership of tasks.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
