Job Description
The Senior Internal Auditor – Technical will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and contributing to the improvement of risk management, internal control, and governance systems within UNMC. This position focuses on technical audits of engineering, mining, and geoscience processes and ensures compliance with policies, laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and execute internal audit plans aligned with company objectives.
Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and recommend enhancements.
Conduct special audits and investigations on technical operations.
Oversee value-for-money audits for projects undertaken by the company.
Prepare detailed audit reports and present findings to supervisors.
Implement audit follow-ups and ensure accountability and corrective actions.
Establish a compliance monitoring framework for technical units.
Identify and communicate compliance gaps to business units.
Promote continuous improvement in operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensure audits conform to professional standards and best practices.
Review technical procedures for associated risks and suggest mitigations.
Assess alignment of operational goals with UNMC’s strategic objectives.
Advise senior management on governance, control, and risk matters.
Coordinate with external auditors and follow up on implementation of recommendations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Engineering, Geology, Mining, Industrial Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Geoscience, or Mining Engineering from a recognized institution.
At least 4 years of relevant experience in technical audits or related projects with proven leadership and quality assurance skills.
Professional qualifications such as CIA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA are an added advantage.
Membership in a recognized professional body is a plus.
Strong skills in audit strategy, risk control, and compliance management.
Analytical and investigative capabilities with excellent communication and report writing skills.
Proficient in internal audit methodologies and best practices.
