The Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine provides expert care for adults with complex medical conditions affecting internal organs and body systems. The role involves diagnosing difficult cases, developing treatment plans, supervising clinical teams and advising other healthcare professionals.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Diagnose difficult and complex adult medical cases and develop treatment plans
Supervise clinical teams and advise other healthcare professionals on complex cases
Manage serious and chronic illnesses across the referral hospital network
Support medical training, research and clinical quality improvement
Provide specialist clinical care and technical leadership within the specialty
Supervise and mentor junior medical officers, interns and allied health staff
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement and morbidity and mortality reviews
Support referral systems and continuity of care across the referral hospital network
Contribute to teaching, research and health service planning in the specialty

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
Master of Medicine (MMed) or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification in the relevant specialty
Registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council
Valid annual practising licence
Post-registration specialist experience in the relevant field

Expert clinical judgement in the specialty
Leadership and supervision of multidisciplinary teams
Excellent communication with patients, families and colleagues
Commitment to quality improvement and patient safety
