Senior Business/Commercial Analyst job at Uganda National Mining Company (UNMC)

Job Description
This position supports the Manager, Risk, Planning, and Investments in delivering commercial insights and strategic assessments for UNMC's upstream activities and potential new ventures. The Analyst will develop economic models, assess project risks, and interpret commercial opportunities to guide investment decisions. The role includes coordinating assumption reviews, due diligence on potential joint venture partners, and staying updated on global energy trends and fiscal policies relevant to the mining and petroleum sectors. Additionally, the analyst contributes to long- and medium-term business development planning and provides quality oversight of commercial evaluations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct economic and financial modeling of existing mining licenses and new ventures
Perform project feasibility evaluations and investment risk analyses
Identify business drivers to support decision-making processes
Contribute to the development of strategic business planning and policy papers
Provide quality assurance and oversight of economic modeling and commercial evaluations
Conduct due diligence on potential joint venture partners
Coordinate reviews and approvals of financial assumptions and modeling documents
Monitor developments in economic evaluation practices, fiscal policy, energy trends, and market pricing
Carry out any other tasks as assigned by the Manager
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Honours Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Statistics, Commerce, or a related field
Master’s Degree in any of the above fields
Experience:
Minimum of six (6) years relevant experience in a natural resource-based institution, or a public/private sector organization
Proven experience in commercial analysis and executing commercially viable contracts
Competencies and Skills:
Proficiency in Excel or financial analysis software
Strong economic evaluation and risk assessment skills
Ability to interpret and analyze complex financial/statistical data
Strategic thinking and planning skills
Excellent communication and reporting abilities
Age Requirement:
30 to 45 years
