Job Description
Our client is a Steel Manufacturing Company based in Jinja, Uganda with a large focus on Steel manufacturing, production and distribution. On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent and experienced Senior Accountant to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Reports To: The Finance Controller
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in preparing and reviewing financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. H/She will be responsible for analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement, and also coordinating with external auditors during audits and ensure timely submission of required documentation, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and prepare necessary filings.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
Generate reports on financial performance, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow.
Provide insights on variances and trends to support decision-making.
Maintain and oversee the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Perform account reconciliations, including bank and intercompany accounts.
Post journal entries and ensure proper documentation of transactions.
Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely completion.
Review and approve closing entries and adjustments.
Prepare and submit accurate financial reports within deadlines.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
Prepare and file tax returns accurately and on time.
Support external audits by providing required documentation and reports.
Develop and maintain strong internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.
Recommend improvements to internal processes for greater efficiency.
Collaborate with management to prepare budgets and forecasts.
Monitor budget performance and analyze variances.
Assist in the development of financial strategies to meet organizational goals.
Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing training and support.
Review the work of other accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional qualification in accounting preferably CPA (mandatory)
Understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
At least 5 years post qualification experience in an accounting role.
Experience in working in the manufacturing sector, steel industry preferably.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with accounting software (e.g., Tally. ERP).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for financial data interpretation.
Ability to identify errors and ensure accuracy in financial records.
Strong time management skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with stakeholders and preparing reports.
Barriers to Success in Role
Limited or lack of technical knowledge about finance or accounting.
Failure to have a professional qualification (CPA)
Inability to use Tally (ERP systems) or similar accounting software.
