Job Description
Job Title: Sector Advisor – Food Systems and Climate Resilience
Organisation: Welthungerhilfe (WHH)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary:
The position is to be based at the Country Office in Kampala with technical oversight across the entire country program, WHH field offices and in collaboration with partner organisations. Initial contract duration of one year. The position is to be filled as of 01.01.2026.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead environmental screening and climate vulnerability assessments for all new projects in line with WHH’s climate marker guidance.
Design and promote climate-resilient food system interventions aligned with WHH’s global and Uganda strategies.
Provide technical guidance on sustainable agriculture, soil restoration, agroforestry, and water resource management.
Build staff and partner capacity in climate-smart agriculture and natural resource management approaches.
Develop and disseminate technical guidelines, training materials, and learning resources on food systems and climate resilience.
Support MEAL teams to integrate climate and resilience indicators into project monitoring and evaluation systems.
Lead and contribute to evidence-based learning, documentation, and knowledge sharing on resilience programming.
Provide technical input for proposal development, ensuring quality, innovation, and alignment with donor standards.
Represent WHH in national and international climate and food systems forums, technical working groups, and donor meetings.
Coordinate with MEAL, Grants, and Programme teams to mainstream resilience and climate adaptation across projects.
Ensure technical oversight and quality assurance of food systems and climate resilience projects.
Monitor resource use, compliance, and efficiency in project implementation.
Conduct field visits to assess project quality, provide technical support, and strengthen partner engagement.
Lead advocacy and stakeholder engagement with government ministries, research institutions, and private sector actors.
Position WHH Uganda as a trusted technical partner in food systems, agriculture, and climate resilience initiatives.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Masters degree in Social Sector Planning, Development Studies, Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Food Security, or a related field is required.
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline is an asset.
7–10 years’ experience in food security and livelihoods programming within developing contexts, preferably in agro-pastoral communities.
Proven expertise in FSL and Climate Resilience programme design and quality management for vulnerable populations.
Experience in cash transfer programming, market assessments, and data analysis.
Technical proficiency in Market-Based Programming, FSL Assessments, Labour Market Analysis, and Participatory Vulnerability & Capacity Assessments.
Strong understanding of climate adaptation and mitigation approaches and poverty reduction frameworks.
Experience in planning and responding to large-scale food insecurity and emergency contexts.
Demonstrated commitment to capacity building and participatory management approaches.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with cultural sensitivity and diplomacy.
Proven ability to build partnerships, represent WHH in technical forums, and promote collaborative learning.
Ability to travel regularly and work effectively in diverse environments.
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
