School Nurse

LEAD4africa (L4A), a faith-based organization, is opening L4A School Uganda Limited (L4A SUL) in Bobi, Omoro District in January 2027. The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of students and staff through basic medical care, first aid, health monitoring and health education, upholding high professional standards, confidentiality, ethical practice and the school's Christian values and safeguarding policies.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Provide basic nursing care, first aid and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries
Assess and monitor students' health conditions and administer prescribed medication in line with medical guidance and parental consent
Maintain individual student medical records securely to protect privacy
Monitor students with chronic conditions and special health needs
Refer serious or complex medical cases to hospitals and coordinate follow-up care
Conduct routine health checks and monitor the general well-being of students and staff
Promote preventive health practices including hygiene, nutrition, sanitation and disease prevention
Provide health-related education to students and staff in individual and group settings
Support immunization follow-ups and public health campaigns as required

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications & Experience:

Certificate or Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery or Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution
Valid practicing license from the relevant professional council
At least 2-3 years' experience in nursing or clinical care, preferably in a school or community health setting
No criminal record or history of child abuse or neglect
Willingness and ability to work within a school and boarding environment

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of basic first aid, infection prevention and emergency response
Experience in a boarding school or youth-centered environment is preferred
Training in first aid, child health or adolescent health is an advantage
Basic ICT skills for record-keeping and reporting
Experience in health education or counseling support is an advantage
