Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing implementation, monitoring & evaluation of the project that will be aiming at improving the nutritional status and situation of women and girls of reproductive age, and of children under the age of 2 in two selected sub counties in Amuria District. The position holder will work closely with target communities, relevant government and community structures, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders in the food security and nutrition sectors to create sustainable solutions for combating malnutrition among children, pregnant & lactating mothers.

  • Build a strong program team by providing support in the form of coordination, planning, prioritization, coaching and supervision to all project staff under the program.

  • Together with the Programmes Manager and other colleagues, support organizational development activities, facilitate training and enhance quality of project design, implementation and management, as well as compliance to donor requirements.

  • Ensure that synergies and lessons learned are shared and used within and across the different programs.

  • Develop project operational plans and detailed strategies for the effective implementation of the Nutrition, Agriculture, Gender Equality and Economic Well-being for the Empowerment and Transformation of Women and Young Children project activities.

  • Support in the implementation of the nutrition related activities at field level.

  • Lead in Setting up clear targeting criteria, identification, verification, and selection of target beneficiaries ensuring inclusivity and diversity.

  • Develop and oversee training programs to raise awareness about healthy eating practices, the importance of balanced diets, and the prevention of malnutrition among mothers and children.

  • Coordinate training of target communities using the Care Group Approach on basic nutrition education, Agriculture and Gender Equality,

  • Collaborate and support district/sub-county nutrition coordination committees, village health teams, and health facilities to identify and address nutritional challenges and involve community members in the design and implementation of nutrition interventions.

  • Coordinate Nutrition activities with other healthcare professionals, NGOs, government agencies, and partner organizations to coordinate efforts and leverage resources for maximum impact.

  • Conduct regular assessments and surveys to measure the effectiveness of the training initiatives and gather feedback for improvement.

  • Regularly assess the impact and effectiveness of the nutrition project interventions, making data-driven adjustments as needed to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate records of project activities, including data collection, progress reports, and case studies to demonstrate program effectiveness and impact.

  • Prepare timely reports on project activities, outcomes, and challenges encountered, highlighting key achievements and recommendations.

  • In liaison with the Finance Officer track project implementation expenditure levels and budgets.

  • Provide a good link between COU-TEDDO with other implementing in Teso sub region by ensuring that coordinated efforts are harnessed across project partners.

  • Plan and chair planning and review meetings for project staff on regular timing

  • Conduct annual project staff performance appraisals in line with COU-TEDDO Human resource manual

  • Take part in projects design and identify activities that are key to the advancement of COUTEDDO goal and objectives

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Programmes Manager from time to time

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, Food Science and Technology or related field. A post graduate qualification is an added advantage.

  • Relevant experience of at least 5 years in nutrition programs, preferably in an NGO setting

  • Previous experience in project coordination and leadership of multidisciplinary teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare quality reports.

  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Ability to communicate in the local language (Ateso) is a MUST.

  • Strong understanding of Uganda nutrition principles, food security, and public health.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyse, and interprete data effectively.

  • Strong training and facilitation skills

  • Good computer skills with MS office

  • Must have a valid motorcycle riding permit and be willing to access communities using a Motorcycle.
