How to Apply
Re-copy taste editorial content from The Monitor, headlines and captions for facts, accuracy, taste, house-style, language use, clarity, details and objectivity.
Edits copy to appropriate length, clarity and style without distorting facts or dispensing with salient points.
Selects and edits pictures and write/re-writes appropriate captions to enhance their quality.
Ensures proper laying out of copy and pictures/graphics in web pages.
Tailors stories to reflect interests of international audience.
Ensures timely publication and sign-off of online editions.
Develops and strengthens the Monitor websites as a medium of breaking news.
Updates stories regularly.
Responds to feedback, complaints and suggestions from online readers.
Initiates and develops content for the Monitor website and Online products.
Constantly updates the Monitor Website.
Academic: University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution.
Professional: Diploma in Journalism
Experience: At least 3 years journalism experience and demonstrated writing and editing experience in a newsroom
Core Competencies
Excellent writing and editing skills, with good understanding of online writing and editing requirements such as the use of keywords, hyperlinks and navigation
Must have a good eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
Good organizational skills and ability to work effectively with the team and collate material from multiple sources
Forward thinking and able to strategize for all online platforms
Internet and social media experience with good understanding of new media and web analytics.
Goal driven with the ability to adapt to change and to new opportunities.
Advanced Computer skills
Demonstrable and proven experience in meeting deadlines
Ability to track, review and manage team performance effectively
Innovative and creative
