Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the Metallurgist will perform site-based and analytical assignments across different field locations and projects. Responsibilities include preparing draft technical reports, providing expert input to project development, identifying and mitigating risks, and conducting metallurgical trials. The role also involves evaluating emerging innovations and managing improvements from concept to implementation. This position is integral in delivering technically sound solutions to support the company’s mining operations and strategic goals.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Carry out mining and metallurgical assignments at field locations related to ongoing projects.
Perform office-based data analysis and design from UNMC-generated or third-party data.
Draft technical reports for review and approval by the Senior Metallurgist.
Provide technical input and support for operational activities and project development.
Evaluate metallurgical processes to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.
Identify and address emerging metallurgical challenges and risks, developing appropriate mitigation strategies.
Participate in scoping, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies for mineral processing.
Design and oversee metallurgical trials, analyzing and reporting findings.
Conduct metallurgical accounting and reconciliation audits.
Manage and implement metallurgical improvement initiatives.
Research and assess new innovations in metallurgy for potential application.
Carry out any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
At least four (4) years of relevant professional experience in government or a reputable private sector organization.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Certification in a relevant field is an added advantage.
Postgraduate qualification in a related area is desirable.
Membership in a recognized engineering institution is an added advantage.
Proven ability to produce clear and concise technical reports.
Strong ownership of responsibilities and proactive problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and collaboration in multi-disciplinary teams.
