Uganda National Oil Company - UNOC was incorporated as a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Uganda in June 2015. Our overall function is to handle the Government of Uganda’s commercial interests in the petroleum sub-sector and to ensure State participation in petroleum activities. The company is also mandated to investigate and propose new upstream, midstream, and downstream ventures initially locally and eventually internationally.

Job Description
DEPARTMENT: Operations
JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer (1 Vacancy)
REPORTS TO: Mechanical Engineering Lead
JOB PURPOSE: Provide technical supervision and administrative support for ongoing mechanical projects to ensure works are executed as planned in a safe environment, adhering to Oil and Gas QHSSE standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Collaborate closely with other Project Engineers to ensure project objectives and key performance indicators are achieved safely.
Define the scope of work for individual projects, develop mechanical drawings based on agreed design criteria, prepare bills of quantities, and generate cost estimates to support selection processes and project feasibility analysis.
Conduct structured risk assessments for mechanical works, develop mitigation plans, and proactively manage risks during project execution.
Complete necessary job assessments, permits, time sheets, and any required documentation.
Ensure all required paperwork is available and thoroughly reviewed before mobilizing to site.
Identify and manage scope changes, investigate issues, and provide engineering solutions to support project planning and execution.
Conduct site walk-throughs and plan the installation process.
Record and update any changes to scope and "as-built" drawings as agreed with the line manager.
Supervise and manage construction sites, ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards.
Participate in job inspections to identify and address non-conformities according to technical quality recommendations.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor(s).
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the petroleum, manufacturing, or construction industries within a reputable, busy, and successful company.
Experience using engineering software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Project, and Primavera.
Specialized training in Project Planning and Management is an added advantage.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Strong project planning and management skills.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering standards.
Familiarity with Oil & Gas industry technical standards.
Understanding of the Oil & Gas value chain.
Knowledge of cost management principles.
Contract management expertise.
Application of QHSSE standards.
Coordination and collaboration skills.
Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and plans.
