Job Description

Kabale University is a Public University pursuant to Statutory Instrument No. 36 of 16th July 2015 under The Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 (as amended)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the following post:

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching:

Deliver lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes on industrial chemistry topics to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Develop and update curriculum materials, including course outlines, syllabi, and laboratory manuals.
Design and conduct practical experiments, ensuring students gain hands-on experience with industrial chemistry processes and techniques.
Evaluate and assess students' academic and laboratory performance through exams, assignments, and project work.
Supervise student projects, theses, and dissertations, providing guidance and support throughout their research.

Research:

Conduct original research in areas such as chemical process engineering, materials science, catalysis, environmental chemistry, and chemical manufacturing.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic and industry conferences.
Seek and obtain funding for research projects through grants and industry partnerships.
Collaborate with other researchers and institutions on interdisciplinary research projects.
Supervise and mentor postgraduate and doctoral students in their research activities.

Industry Collaboration:

Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners to facilitate collaboration on research projects, internships, and job placements for students.
Stay updated with industry trends and advancements to ensure curriculum relevance.
Participate in consultancy projects, providing expertise to solve industry-related problems.
Facilitate knowledge transfer between academia and industry.

Administrative Duties:

Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
Serve on academic and administrative committees within the institution.
Assist in the accreditation and quality assurance processes of the academic program.
Engage in professional development activities to stay current with developments in the field of industrial chemistry.

Qualifications and Competencies

Educational Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is typically required.
A Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field is often preferred.

Professional Experience:

Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Research experience in industrial chemistry or related fields, with a record of publications in reputable journals.
Industry experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or related areas is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of industrial chemistry principles, processes, and applications.
Excellent teaching and communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
Proficiency in designing and conducting laboratory experiments.
Strong organizational and administrative skills.
Ability to conduct and supervise research projects, including data collection and analysis.
Proficiency in using educational technology and digital tools for teaching and research.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and industry partners.

Licenses and Certifications:

Certification or licensure relevant to industrial chemistry or chemical engineering may be required or preferred.
Membership in professional organizations such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) or equivalent is beneficial.
