Uganda Heart Institute is recruiting for the post of Epidemiologist (salary scale UHI 4 MED-1; number of posts: One (1)), reporting to the Senior Epidemiologist. To support the implementation of policies and plans on epidemic and disaster preparedness and control by carrying out investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of the cardiac related diseases. This is a full-time position at the Institute headquarters in Mulago, Kampala.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Conduct Investigations and respond to disease epidemics
- Participate in surveillance activities and disseminate epidemiologic findings
- Participate in the epidemiologic studies and urgent outbreak investigations.
- Performs statistical analyses of investigations.
- Participate in the design, management, and use of surveillance systems.
- Supervise data collection, entry, analysis and interpretation of epidemic prone diseases.
- Participate in the design of instruments for the collection of surveillance information and data.
- Training teams on epidemic preparedness, control and surveillance
- Implement new surveillance systems.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications & Experience:
- MBChB or a Degree in Epidemiology or any other related field from a recognized University/Institution.
- Master’s degree with a focus in epidemiology or any other related field will be an added advantage
- Two (2) years of relevant working experience in epidemiology in a public health organization at national level or multinational Organization.
Skills & Competencies:
- Epidemiological analysis and statistical skills
- Surveillance systems design and management
- Report writing and dissemination
- Training and facilitation
