About the Organisation

The Water Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering rural communities in Uganda through sustainable access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), with a mission to improve health and unlock human potential by partnering with schools and villages. Renowned for its high-impact and cost-effective programming, The Water Trust has gained recognition from global partners and development institutions for its data-driven, community-centered approach. The organization fosters a collaborative and inclusive work culture where staff are encouraged to innovate, grow professionally, and make a tangible difference in people’s lives, offering job opportunities that range from field implementation and community engagement to research and program design, often with flexible arrangements for local and international staff.

Since its founding in 2008, The Water Trust has evolved from a small startup to a respected leader in the WASH sector, piloting scalable models such as its Village Maintenance Model to ensure long-term sustainability of water systems. With operations primarily in the Masindi and Kiryandongo districts, the organization has impacted over 250,000 people and continues to expand its reach through partnerships and replication of its best practices. Rooted in core values of accountability, transparency, respect, and innovation, The Water Trust is committed to corporate social responsibility through its relentless focus on equity, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship. For more information, visit their website: https://www.watertrust.org.

The Water Trust empowers the poorest rural communities to provide their children safe water and a healthy, clean environment to develop to their potential. Since 2008, The Water Trust has partnered with more than 800 communities in Masindi and Kiryandongo, benefitting more than 300,000 people. In 2017, The Water Trust developed an innovative savings group-based approach to increase the sustainability of rural water and the impact of hygiene and sanitation promotion. The organization is currently scaling this novel program across more than 400 communities a year in western Uganda across Ugandan and refugee communities. Over the next three years, The Water Trust aims to scale up its programs through direct implementation and technical assistance partnerships, while continuing to partner with researchers to find new ways to raise the bar for impact and sustainability.
