Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Officer (Mechanical), the Engineering Officer (Mechanical) is responsible for performing complex mechanical engineering duties that include designing systems, conducting inspections, analyzing construction issues, and preparing engineering documents. The officer will also evaluate contractor and consultant submissions, ensure safety compliance, and work collaboratively with other engineering and contracts teams. This role requires solid technical skills and the ability to work on a wide variety of mechanical engineering projects within a mining or industrial environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare and supervise the creation of mechanical engineering designs, drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates
Plan and coordinate phases of mechanical engineering tasks within major or minor projects
Review contractors’ mechanical works and submissions for compliance with project specifications
Assess mechanical designs and submittals prepared by consultants
Conduct site investigations and resolve construction-related issues
Perform engineering calculations and analysis for utility systems and transportation facilities
Oversee and inspect construction activities for compliance with mechanical standards and regulations
Assist in the preparation of detailed construction and contract documents
Draft technical reports and correspondence for various engineering projects
Collaborate with teams including drafting technicians and contracts staff
Follow and enforce safety and health practices on the job site
Ensure compliance with safety regulations among supervised staff
Originate and verify mechanical engineering plans, estimates, and specifications
Maintain reliable and regular attendance and professional performance
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university or institution
Experience:
Minimum of four (4) years of professional mechanical engineering experience in design, estimation, specification preparation, and construction supervision
Familiarity with current mechanical codes and products
Experience with modern construction methods and material analysis
Competencies:
Proficient in applying mechanical engineering theories to real-world field and office problems
Strong analytical, design, and documentation skills
Understanding of health and safety standards in mechanical construction projects
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational abilities
