Dean, School of Medicine

The Dean provides strategic, academic and administrative leadership for the School of Medicine, overseeing existing postgraduate medical education programmes while leading the development and establishment of a new undergraduate medical programme, reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Research.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Provide strategic direction for the School of Medicine in line with AHSU's vision and national health workforce priorities
Lead development and implementation of the School's strategic and operational plans
Establish academic governance structures, policies and quality assurance systems
Provide academic oversight of residency programmes and support their expansion
Strengthen curriculum delivery, clinical supervision and competency-based assessment
Lead curriculum development, accreditation and faculty capacity building
Build partnerships with teaching hospitals and international academic institutions

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Medical degree (MD, MBBS or equivalent) from a recognised institution
Postgraduate medical specialist qualification or equivalent advanced clinical training
At least ten years of relevant experience in clinical practice, medical education or academic leadership
Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, academic programme management and quality assurance
Experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education and research engagement
Strong understanding of medical education accreditation and regulatory frameworks
PhD or equivalent in medicine, health sciences or health professions education is strongly preferred
