Job Description
A Crop Scout plays a key role in monitoring and assessing the health of crops by conducting regular field inspections. This position involves identifying pests, diseases, weeds, and other issues that can affect crop yield, as well as collecting data that helps make informed decisions on crop management practices. The Crop Scout will work closely with agronomists, farm managers, and other team members to ensure optimal crop growth and productivity.

How to Apply
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform regular field scouting to monitor crop health, growth stages, and environmental conditions.
• Identify and document signs of pests, diseases, weeds, and nutrient deficiencies.
• Collect and record field data including plant counts, growth stages, and any anomalies.
• Take soil and tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
• Assist in crop protection by advising on pest control measures based on field observations.
• Use precision agriculture tools, GPS, and scouting software e.g Cropwise for data collection and reporting.
• Provide timely reports and updates to the agronomist or farm manager.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during scouting activities.
• Assist with the implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
• Collaborate with the farm operations team to optimize crop yield and quality.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related field preferred).
• Experience in crop scouting, agronomy, or agriculture operations (1-2 years preferred).
• Familiarity with crops, pests, diseases, and weed identification techniques.
• Strong observational and analytical skills.
• Ability to use technology such as mobile apps, GPS devices, and field scouting software.
• Knowledge of pesticide and herbicide application principles.
• Physical ability to walk long distances and work in various weather conditions.
• Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between fields.
Preferred Skills:
• Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM).
• Experience using precision agriculture technologies and data collection tools.
• Familiarity with farming software such as Cropwise.
Work Environment:
This position involves extensive outdoor fieldwork in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to walk fields for long periods. Travel between different farm locations may be required.
