Job Description

Job Title:  Country Manager/ Head Investment Advisor

Organisation: I&M Bank Uganda

Reports to: Chief Executive Director- I&M Capital Limited

The Job holder is responsible for executing the overall strategy of I&M Capital – Wealth Management Uganda, enhance business growth, drive initiatives that increase client value and income for the unit. Ensure full compliance with the strategic vision and direction as directed by the CEO of I&M Capital Limited in addition to all regulatory and internal requirements and be responsible for the day to day running of the unit. Role holder will be responsible for managing Investment Advisors/ Senior Officer/ Officer Wealth Management within I&M Capital Limited. This role will also perform such functions as may be called upon to by the CEO of I&M Capital Limited.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Develop business strategy and execute the business plan.

  • Communicate financial information and complex strategic issues in a clear and concise manner, including the wealth management philosophies, vision, process and delivery to team members, clients and prospective clients.

  • Develop and expand the network of existing industry contacts to assist the Company in sourcing new business.

  • Develop, recommend and execute the investment objectives, risk tolerance and strategies for the client portfolio.

  • Develop the Investment Policy Statement for clients and prospects.

  • Assist in the preparation of investment strategies, annual plans and policies.

  • Support in the communication of the wealth management philosophies, vision, process and delivery to team members, clients and prospective clients.

  • Increase the visibility of the investment process both internally to investment partners and externally to clients, prospects and centre of influence.

  • Oversee the development and training of the team and manage time constraints and deadlines while ensuring a high level of quality on all transactions.

Client Origination

  • Origination of transactions; regional and offshore transactions, money market funds in both Uganda shillings and United States Dollar and other currencies applicable.

  • Client on-boarding and product sales.

  • Evaluation and processing of new investments for clients.

  • Successful execution of client transactions.

  • Prepare commentaries to be distributed to clients.

Governance and Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain efficient and adequate internal control systems for the management of the company

  • Management and coordination of governance meetings and ensuring actions from meetings are completed promptly.

  • Creation and management of company policies and procedures in line with local Regulations and Group guidelines.

  • Ensure all regulatory reporting requirements are adhered to and completed timely.

  • Ensure that compliance with the Act and other relevant laws and keep abreast with any changes in regulations/laws impacting on the business.

  • Conduct and prepare due diligence reports for offshore funds and managers for distribution internally and externally.

Operations

  • Oversee the operations departments within the company.

  • Oversee settlement and portfolio reporting.

  • Coordinating teams of professionals including accountants and lawyers as necessary for target transactions.

  • Liaise with strategic partners in the execution of client transactions.

  • Oversee in any other administrative related assignments within the Company.

  • Oversee client experience and ensure clients are satisfied with services through client surveys.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Finance or Business or related field

  • Achievement of all CMA qualification requirements including the CISI exam

  • requirements.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Wealth Management and or Investment Banking.

  • Demonstrated experience in wealth management theory, associated investment strategies and instruments and characteristics of various marketplaces.

  • Ability to prepare client and new business presentation material, including strong working knowledge of spreadsheet and presentation software.

Key Required Competencies & Skills

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative background.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid research skills.

  • Ability to find and contact potential clients, with ability to build (or utilize existing) extensive network of potential clients and referral sources.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work across functions and levels of seniority.

  • Initiative – must be a self-starter, able to work independently with drive and motivation.

  • Prior experience in investment banking / wealth management and/or knowledge of the process and client expectations
