Job Description
The Community Development Officer will support with community mobilization, farmer training, and implementation of agroforestry and restoration activities under the Common ROOTS: Communities Rising on Opportunities through Trees’ Stewardship in Uganda project, ensuring effective delivery of outputs related to community forest restoration, agroforestry adoption, nursery development, and nature-based enterprise development in the Teso sub-region. The project is funded by the European Union through the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation and will be implemented in the East Central sub-region (Jinja, Luuka, and Kamuli); Elgon sub-region (Mbale, Sironko, Balambuli, and Namisindwa); Teso sub-region (Soroti, Kaberamaido, Amuria, Kapelebyong, Katakwi, Kumi, Ngora, and Serere); and the Karamoja sub-region (Napak), in a consortium led by CESVI Fondazione-ETS
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Community Mobilization
- Mobilize farmers, community groups, and local institutions to participate in project activities.
- Facilitate formation and strengthening of farmer groups and community forest management committees.
Farmer Training and Extension
- Deliver training on agroforestry practices, soil and water conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.
- Support establishment of demonstration farms and agroforestry plots.
Nursery and Restoration Support
- Assist in strengthening community tree nurseries and seedling production systems.
- Support restoration activities including tree planting and Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR).
Monitoring and Reporting
- Collect field data and support monitoring of project indicators.
- Prepare activity reports and field updates.
Other areas of responsibility
- Support monitoring, data collection, and documentation of project activities.
- Assist in organizing community meetings, training, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Support awareness campaigns and behavior change communication activities.
- Collaborate with other project staff to ensure integrated implementation of project activities.
- Provide logistical support during field missions and project events when required.
- Mobilize and organize farmers, community groups, and local institutions to participate in project activities.
- Facilitate establishment and strengthening of community forest management groups and farmer groups.
- Support delivery of training on agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, soil and water conservation, and sustainable land management practices.
- Assist in the establishment and maintenance of agroforestry demonstration plots and model farms.
- Support the development and strengthening of community and private tree nurseries, including seedling production and distribution.
- Facilitate community awareness activities on forest restoration, environmental conservation, and sustainable resource management.
- Assist in implementation of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration and tree planting activities at community and institutional levels.
- Support engagement of schools, community groups, and local leaders in project activities such as woodlots and environmental clubs.
- Collect and submit field data for project monitoring, including tracking farmer participation, training attendance, and restoration progress.
- Prepare field activity reports and share updates with the Project Coordinator.
- Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in project activities.
