Job Description
Job Title: Carriage and Wagon Examiner/Fitter
Organisation: Uganda Railways Corporation (URC)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Carriage & Wagon Inspector, the Carriage & Wagons examiner conducts inspections, maintenance and repairs to wagons and coaches.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conducts inspections of wagons and coaches at CXR repair centers and marshalling yards.
Prepares Statistics and statements of Wagons and Coaches performance, sick, count failures, production and other operating matters and advises the Carriage & Wagon Inspector.
Investigates reports on carriage and wagon failures and repairs to determine modification or revising to maintenance schedules.
Investigates reports on damages to wagons caused by loading and unloading practices to develop solutions to basic.
Ascertains that Trains are safe with functional braking systems.
Ascertains that Carriages & Wagons are well maintained.
Ascertains that CXR repair centers are safe for working environment
Performs scheduled maintenance, unscheduled repairs, and tests carriage & wagons to established set of standards at CXR repair centers
Carries out scheduled maintenance,
Carries out unscheduled repairs,
Tests carriages & Wagons to established set of standards at CXR Repair Centers
Requisitions for materials for maintenance & repairs
Accounts for the materials
Submits reports to the Carriage & Wagon Inspector
Ensures that trains are prepared & adheres to performance and quality standards
Follows appropriate train preparations practices and adheres to performance and quality stipulations as per maintenance and operational requirements
Assists in Rolling Stock accidents / failures
Participates in rolling stock accidents / failures.
Prepares & submits reports
Responsible for Documentation
Completes documentation accurately and on time.
Submits reports
Responsible for good working environment and safety of personnel, tools and machinery at CXR repair centers.
Creates safe & conducive working environment for staff
Takes care of safety of machinery, tools etc. at the CXR Repair Center
Performs other duties assigned
Willingly Carries out other duties that may be assigned by supervisor
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
At least Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent and Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is an added advantage
Skills in Computer applications particularly; Microsoft Access, Excel, Word Processing and PowerPoint.
Capable of working under pressure.
Ability to work with people of diverse cultural /ethnic background, gender, and beliefs.
