Agronomist

The Agronomist will support improved agricultural productivity by providing technical guidance on soil management, crop production, pest and disease control, and climate-smart agriculture. The role involves field-based work with farmers, data analysis, and the development of sustainable farming practices.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of climate-smart crop and vegetable production practices.
Provide technical support in food crops, vegetables, fruit trees, and fodder production.
Establish and supervise demonstration plots for innovative agronomic practices.
Support post-harvest handling and local market development.
Supervise crop protection and agronomy-related activities.
Ensure all agricultural interventions promote sustainability and resilience.
Conduct studies, assessments, and documentation of best practices and lessons learned.
Advise project teams on quality standards in crop production.
Develop and refine tools and systems related to agronomy and climate-smart agriculture.
Promote inclusive and farmer-centered approaches in crop production.
Participate in planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of project progress.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, or a related field.
At least three (3) years’ experience for diploma holders or two (2) years for bachelor’s degree holders working with farmers or agricultural programs.
Strong knowledge of soil science, plant biology, entomology, and plant pathology is an added advantage.
Ability to analyze data and interpret field survey results.
Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
High integrity and adaptability to changing environments.
