About the Organisation
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Job Description
Job Title: Senior Environment Protection Officer
Department: Enforcement and Field Operations
Reports To: Principal Environment Protection Officer
Supervises: Environment Protection Officers
Salary Scale: NEMA E4
Number of Positions: 4
Location: Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in the development and implementation of section work plans and ensure timely reporting.
Deploy and oversee law enforcement personnel during environmental surveillance and operational activities.
Contribute to the creation and execution of operational plans and standard operating procedures for the Environment Protection Force (EPF).
Support and lead field operations aimed at preventing and combating environmental crime.
Manage and safeguard the EPF’s armory and strong room, ensuring security of sensitive materials and equipment.
Provide assistance in prosecuting environmental offenders through collection of evidence and court representation.
Contribute to capacity building initiatives for law enforcement personnel.
Supervise, mentor, and appraise the performance of subordinate officers.
Carry out any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Environmental and Natural Resources, Natural Sciences, Law, or Criminology from a recognized institution.
Master’s Degree in Law, Criminology, Psychology, Environmental and Natural Resources, or Natural Sciences from a recognized institution.
Additional Requirements
Must have undergone military science or law enforcement training lasting at least six (6) months.
Must possess a valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued by Interpol.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in law enforcement from a reputable organization.

Strong leadership, team building, and supervision skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation abilities
Strong analytical and presentation skills
Proficiency in scholarly writing and publication
Sound financial and human resource management skills
Excellent report writing and documentation capabilities
