Job Opportunity: Mail Handler (30 Positions)

Duty Stations:
Busembatya, Bushenyi, Busia, Kaliro, Fort Portal, Kamuli, Kapchorwa, Kisoro, Kyambogo, Lugazi, Malaba, Jinja, Mengo, Mukono, Nakawa, Wandegeya, Kiboga, Bugiri, Nakasongola, Lyantonde, Luwero, Kaberamaido, and 08 positions at EMS Kampala Office.
Purpose of the Job
The Mail Handler is responsible for the accurate processing, distribution, and delivery of incoming and outgoing mail in line with Posta Uganda’s service standards. The role ensures timely service to customers and the secure handling of postal items.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Sort incoming and outgoing mail and parcels based on routes, destinations, and delivery schedules.
Assist customers with postal service inquiries and provide information on available products.
Ensure on-time and accurate delivery of mail to the designated recipients.
Maintain records of deliveries, including undelivered or returned items, and report any delivery challenges to the supervisor.
Weigh, stamp, and process mail items with correct postage and secure packaging for delivery or dispatch.
Perform basic motorcycle checks to ensure safe operation and report mechanical issues for repair.
Follow traffic laws and safety regulations when riding, and always wear appropriate protective gear.
Handle postal items with care, maintain confidentiality, and follow all postal handling procedures.
Repackage and report any damaged or torn items, re-weigh and secure them properly.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Performance Indicators
Accuracy rate of sorted and routed mail
Daily volume of mail processed
Timeliness of deliveries
Number of customer complaints related to mail handling
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
Valid rider’s permit (Class A)
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in a reputable organization
Required Competencies
Effective written and verbal communication
Strong physical ability to lift and handle heavy parcels and mailbags
Proficiency in basic computer use
Fluency in spoken and written English
High level of accuracy, reliability, and customer service orientation
