The Primary School Mathematics Teacher is responsible for teaching foundational mathematical concepts, including arithmetic, geometry, and problem-solving skills, to young learners. The teacher will design engaging lessons, foster a positive attitude toward mathematics, and ensure students grasp essential numeracy skills needed for their academic and daily life success.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and Deliver Lessons:
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with Uganda’s national curriculum.
Simplify mathematical concepts to cater to diverse student learning abilities.
Teach Foundational Mathematics:
Cover core topics, such as number operations, fractions, measurements, geometry, and word problems.
Emphasize the practical application of mathematics in real-life situations.
Encourage Problem-Solving:
Foster critical thinking and analytical skills through problem-solving exercises.
Use puzzles, games, and hands-on activities to make learning fun and interactive.
Assess and Monitor Student Progress:
Evaluate students through quizzes, tests, and assignments to monitor their understanding.
Maintain records of student performance and provide constructive feedback.
Create an Engaging Learning Environment:
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages active participation.
Use varied teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
Support Students with Learning Difficulties:
Provide extra assistance to students struggling with mathematics.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
Prepare Teaching Resources:
Use tools such as charts, flashcards, and manipulatives to aid understanding.
Incorporate technology, where possible, to enhance learning experiences.
Collaborate with Stakeholders:
Work with other teachers to align lesson plans and share best practices.
Engage with parents to communicate students’ progress and suggest ways to support learning at home.
Encourage a Growth Mindset:
Instill confidence in students to overcome challenges in mathematics.
Promote a positive attitude towards learning and problem-solving.
Participate in School Activities:
Contribute to extracurricular activities such as math clubs, competitions, or events that enhance mathematical learning.
Professional Development:
Attend training sessions and workshops to stay updated on teaching methodologies and curriculum changes.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Educational Background: Diploma in Primary Education (Credit or distinction), specializing in Mathematics or a related field.
Certification: Must be registered or certified by the Ministry of Education and Sports in Uganda.
Experience: Prior experience teaching mathematics at the primary level is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
Strong understanding of primary-level mathematical concepts.
Ability to simplify and explain complex ideas to young learners.
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
Creativity in lesson planning and teaching methods.
Patience, enthusiasm, and passion for teaching.
Strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
