Job Description
The Yard Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the yard, ensuring timely and accurate loading, delivery, and collection of formwork and scaffolding materials. This includes managing the company’s transport fleet, overseeing inland site stripping activities, and handling cross hires. The role demands a high level of organizational skill, people management, and attention to logistics. The Yard Manager will be responsible for maintaining safety and operational standards while supporting internal teams, particularly sales and operations. Additionally, the Yard Manager will oversee workforce planning, implement operational strategies, and ensure optimal use of stock and assets.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Professionally manage customer interactions at the yard regarding collections and queries
Ensure accurate and timely deliveries and collections to and from customer sites
Oversee and schedule drivers, ensuring valid licenses and optimal performance
Manage yard and transport staff in compliance with labour laws
Support the Sales Team by responding to queries and facilitating logistics
Maintain efficient stock control and minimize losses
Plan and coordinate deliveries and collections with sales and clients
Ensure accurate documentation of products and quantities for all transport activities
Manage site stripping operations in the Inland region, Eastern Cape coastal, and Durban
Control and optimize operating expenses, manage site assets, and ensure housekeeping
Implement schedules and plans set by the Operations Manager
Monitor and enforce quality assurance and operational standards
Ensure effective use of operating systems and compliance with Health & Safety regulations
Oversee the cost-effective management of the transport fleet and distribution logistics

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
Strong customer service orientation
Demonstrated professionalism and leadership skills
Focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence
Fluent in English
Experience in logistics, transport management, or construction industry preferred
