Grindrod Logistics Africa Uganda seeks to recruit skilled, experienced, and motivated technical team to work in Kampala and Buliisa to maintain their contracted equipment throughout the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled inspections, preventive maintenance, and routine repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems to ensure their proper functioning and longevity.

  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose equipment malfunctions, electrical issues, plumbing leaks, or HVAC problems using diagnostic tools and techniques. Identify root causes of problems and develop solutions to resolve them.

  • Repair Work: Conduct repairs or replacements of faulty components, parts, or systems as needed to restore equipment or facilities to operational status. This may involve repairing machinery, fixing leaks, replacing wiring, or installing new equipment.

  • Equipment Testing: Test and calibrate equipment, machinery, or systems to ensure they meet performance standards and specifications. Conduct functional tests, load tests, or pressure tests to verify proper operation.

  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency maintenance calls or service requests to address urgent issues or breakdowns. Take immediate action to minimize downtime and prevent disruptions to operations.

  • Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, parts used, and equipment condition. Keep maintenance logs, work orders, and inventory records up to date for tracking and reporting purposes.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures when performing maintenance tasks to prevent accidents, injuries, or property damage. Follow lockout/tagout procedures, use safety equipment, and report any safety hazards or concerns.

  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other maintenance technicians, contractors, or vendors as needed to complete maintenance projects, repairs, or installations. Work collaboratively with team members to achieve maintenance goals and objectives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, or efficiency gains in maintenance operations. Make recommendations for equipment upgrades, maintenance procedures, or workflow enhancements.

  • Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional service to internal customers, tenants, or building occupants. Respond to maintenance requests promptly, communicate effectively, and ensure customer satisfaction with maintenance outcomes.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with vocational training, an associate degree, or certification in a relevant field such as electrical, mechanical, or HVAC systems.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems. Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, and techniques used in maintenance and repair work.

  • Experience: Previous experience in technical or maintenance roles is often preferred. Candidates with hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, equipment repair, or construction may have an advantage.

  • Certifications: Depending on the specific role and industry, certifications or licenses related to maintenance and technical skills may be required or beneficial. Examples include HVAC certification, electrical licenses, or OSHA certification for safety training.

  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in diagnosing problems, performing repairs, and documenting maintenance activities.

  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. Ability to work safely and use personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing maintenance tasks.

  • Communication Skills: Good communication skills to effectively communicate with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Ability to follow instructions, provide updates on maintenance tasks, and report any issues or concerns.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions to resolve technical problems or equipment malfunctions.

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods. Maintenance work may involve strenuous activities and working in various weather conditions.

  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, schedules, and work environments. Willingness to learn new skills and technologies to keep pace with advancements in maintenance and technical fields.
