Job Description
Lira University was established as a Public University by Statutory Instrument No.35, of July 18th 2015 to expand access to equitable quality Higher Education in the country and to respond to the critical Human Resource Development needs of the country. The University is governed by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 as amended 2006 of the Republic of Uganda. The University is located in Lango Sub-region in Northern Uganda, Lira City. In order to fulfill the current mandate and to position the University to assist local community and build their capacity for socio economic enhancement, the university has to fill positions with personnel with required skills and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assisting with Teaching: TAs help faculty members in preparing and delivering lectures, seminars, and workshops. They may also facilitate discussions, lead small group activities, or conduct lab sessions related to midwifery topics.
Grading and Assessment: TAs assist in grading assignments, exams, and other assessments. They provide feedback to students and help maintain records of their academic performance.
Student Support: TAs serve as a point of contact for students, answering questions, providing guidance on course materials, and offering academic support as needed. They may also conduct review sessions or tutoring sessions to help students better understand course content.
Administrative Support: TAs assist with administrative tasks such as preparing course materials, maintaining course websites or learning management systems, and organizing class schedules and logistics.
Research Assistance: Depending on the department's needs, TAs may assist faculty members with research projects by collecting data, conducting literature reviews, or helping with data analysis.
Clinical Support: In some cases, TAs may support faculty members in clinical settings by assisting with patient care, providing supervision to students during clinical rotations, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols.

Qualifications and Competencies
Enrollment in a Graduate Program: Typically, TAs are graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in midwifery or a related field. They should have a strong academic background and a genuine interest in teaching and research.
Knowledge of Midwifery Practices: TAs should have a solid understanding of midwifery principles, practices, and current trends in the field. Practical experience as a midwife or in related healthcare roles is beneficial.
Excellent Communication Skills: TAs need to communicate effectively with both faculty members and students. They should be able to explain complex concepts clearly, provide constructive feedback, and engage students in meaningful discussions.
Organizational Skills: TAs must be well-organized and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently. They should be able to prioritize their responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Teamwork and Collaboration: TAs should work well as part of a team, collaborating closely with faculty members, other TAs, and administrative staff to ensure the smooth operation of courses and programs.
Professionalism and Ethical Conduct: TAs are expected to maintain professionalism in their interactions with students, faculty, and staff. They should adhere to ethical standards in teaching, research, and academic integrity.
Training and Professional Development: Institutions may provide training or professional development opportunities for TAs to enhance their teaching and research skills. TAs are encouraged to participate in such activities to improve their effectiveness in their roles.
