Shree Sahajanand School, Uganda (SSSU) is a modern co-educational day learning institution offering pre-primary, primary, and secondary schooling to children on the National Curriculum.
Situated in the heart of Kampala City at Bukoto, Nakawa Division, SSSU is strategically built in a quiet and secure residential area on a 30-acre Shree Swaminarayan Complex.
We operate under the auspices of Shree Kutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SKLPS) Uganda, and Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple (SKSST, Kampala. The school is incorporated as Shree Sahajanand School in the year 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Teach visual arts classes according to curriculum guidelines and lesson plans. Provide instruction in various art mediums, techniques, and artistic concepts.

  • Lesson Planning: Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that align with curriculum standards and cater to the needs of diverse learners. This may include art history lessons, studio projects, and art critiques.

  • Studio Management: Manage the art studio or classroom environment, including organizing art supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and conducive space for creativity.

  • Critique and Feedback: Provide constructive criticism and feedback on students' artwork through individual critiques, group critiques, and written evaluations. Encourage students to reflect on their own artistic process and growth.

  • Art History and Theory: Integrate art history lessons and discussions on artistic movements, styles, and cultural influences into the curriculum to provide context and inspiration for students' artistic exploration.

  • Portfolio Development: Assist students in developing their art portfolios for college applications, art competitions, or career opportunities in the visual arts field.

  • Exhibition and Display: Organize art exhibitions, showcases, and displays to celebrate students' artwork and promote the visual arts program within the school and community.

  • Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate with other teachers and disciplines to integrate visual arts into interdisciplinary projects, themed units, or school-wide events.

  • Community Engagement: Engage with parents, community organizations, and external partners to showcase student artwork, participate in community art projects, and foster connections with local artists and arts organizations.

  • Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and community members. Uphold ethical standards, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to school policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field is typically required. Some institutions may prefer candidates with a master's degree, especially for teaching at the high school or college level.

  • Teaching Certification: Many jurisdictions require teachers to obtain a teaching certification or license to teach in public schools. This often involves completing a teacher education program with a focus on art education and passing relevant exams.

  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Demonstrated proficiency in various art mediums, techniques, art history, and aesthetic principles is essential for visual arts teachers. They should have a strong foundation in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, digital media, and other artistic disciplines.

  • Experience: While not always required, having teaching or professional experience in the visual arts field can strengthen a candidate's application. Experience working with children or adolescents is also valuable.

  • Portfolio: Many employers may request a portfolio of the candidate's artwork to demonstrate their artistic skills, creativity, and style.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills are necessary for effectively teaching visual arts and interacting with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.

  • Technology Skills: Familiarity with digital art tools and software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and digital drawing tablets, can enhance teaching and learning in the visual arts classroom.

  • Art Critique and Feedback: Visual arts teachers should be able to provide constructive criticism and feedback on students' artwork to help them improve their skills and develop their artistic voice.

  • Continuing Education: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities, such as workshops, seminars, conferences, art exhibitions, and artist residencies, is important for staying updated on contemporary art practices and pedagogical approaches.

  • Background Check: Depending on the institution and location, a background check may be required to ensure the safety of students.
