Shree Sahajanand School, Uganda (SSSU) is a modern co-educational day learning institution offering pre-primary, primary, and secondary schooling to children on the National Curriculum.
Situated in the heart of Kampala City at Bukoto, Nakawa Division, SSSU is strategically built in a quiet and secure residential area on a 30-acre Shree Swaminarayan Complex.
We operate under the auspices of Shree Kutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SKLPS) Uganda, and Shree Kutch Satsang Swaminarayan Temple (SKSST, Kampala. The school is incorporated as Shree Sahajanand School in the year 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement curriculum materials, lesson plans, and instructional resources for teaching consumer science topics aligned with curriculum standards and educational objectives.

  • Instruction: Teach consumer science classes according to curriculum guidelines and lesson plans. Provide instruction in various consumer-related topics, including personal finance, nutrition, food preparation, clothing and textiles, family relationships, and life skills.

  • Hands-on Learning: Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, laboratory activities, cooking demonstrations, sewing projects, budgeting exercises, and other practical applications of consumer science concepts.

  • Life Skills Education: Teach practical life skills such as meal planning, cooking techniques, clothing care, sewing, home maintenance, time management, organization, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Consumer Rights and Responsibilities: Educate students about consumer rights, ethical consumerism, sustainable consumption practices, environmental stewardship, and consumer protection laws.

  • Financial Literacy Education: Provide instruction in personal finance topics such as budgeting, saving, investing, banking, credit management, insurance, taxes, retirement planning, and financial decision-making.

  • Nutrition Education: Teach nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, healthy eating habits, food selection, meal preparation, food safety, and the importance of balanced diets for overall health and well-being.

  • Child Development and Family Studies: Provide instruction in child development theories, parenting skills, family dynamics, relationship building, conflict resolution, and strategies for promoting healthy family relationships.

  • Career Exploration: Introduce students to career opportunities in consumer-related fields such as nutrition and dietetics, hospitality management, fashion design, interior decorating, financial planning, family services, and consumer advocacy.

  • Community Engagement: Encourage students to participate in community service projects, volunteer opportunities, internships, job shadowing experiences, and industry partnerships related to consumer science and family and consumer sciences.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Consumer Science, Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), Home Economics, Nutrition, Human Development, or a related field is typically required. Some institutions may prefer candidates with a master's degree, especially for teaching at the high school or college level.

  • Teaching Certification: Many jurisdictions require teachers to obtain a teaching certification or license to teach in public schools. This often involves completing a teacher education program with a focus on family and consumer sciences education and passing relevant exams.

  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Demonstrated proficiency in various topics related to consumer science, including personal finance, consumer rights and responsibilities, nutrition, food science, meal planning, clothing and textiles, interior design, child development, family relationships, and life skills.

  • Experience: While not always required, having teaching or professional experience in consumer science, home economics, nutrition, or related fields can strengthen a candidate's application. Experience working with individuals and families in educational, community, or clinical settings is valuable.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effectively teaching consumer science and interacting with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.

  • Practical Skills: Proficiency in practical skills such as cooking, sewing, budgeting, and household management is important for teaching consumer science subjects and demonstrating practical applications of concepts.

  • Technology Skills: Familiarity with educational technology tools, such as interactive whiteboards, multimedia presentations, cooking equipment, sewing machines, and online resources, can enhance teaching and learning in the consumer science classroom.

  • Nutrition and Health Knowledge: Understanding of nutrition principles, dietary guidelines, food safety practices, meal planning strategies, and health promotion concepts is important for teaching nutrition and food science topics.

  • Financial Literacy: Knowledge of personal finance concepts, including budgeting, saving, investing, banking, credit management, consumer rights, and financial planning, is essential for teaching personal finance and consumer economics.

  • Continuing Education: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities, such as workshops, seminars, conferences, and industry certifications, is important for staying updated on current trends, research findings, and best practices in consumer science education.
