About the Organisation
Plan International is a renowned global development and humanitarian organization dedicated to advancing children's rights and equality for girls. Founded in 1937, Plan International operates in more than 75 countries, working with communities, governments, and other partners to address the root causes of poverty and inequality and to create lasting change.
The organization's work focuses on a wide range of areas including education, health, child protection, economic security, and disaster response. Plan International is committed to ensuring that all children, especially girls, have access to quality education. They implement programs that improve school infrastructure, provide learning materials, and train teachers to create safe and inclusive learning environments. The organization also advocates for policies that promote education for all children.
In the area of health, Plan International works to improve maternal and child health, nutrition, and access to clean water and sanitation. Their health programs include initiatives to prevent and treat malnutrition, provide immunizations, and ensure access to sexual and reproductive health services. By focusing on preventative care and health education, Plan International aims to reduce mortality rates and improve overall health outcomes for children and their families.
Child protection is another critical area of focus for Plan International. The organization implements programs to prevent violence, abuse, and exploitation of children. They work to strengthen child protection systems, support children who have experienced trauma, and promote laws and policies that safeguard children's rights. Plan International also addresses harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, advocating for the rights of girls to live free from violence and discrimination.
Economic security programs by Plan International aim to empower communities and families to become self-sufficient. The organization provides vocational training, supports small businesses, and promotes savings and loans groups to help families generate income and improve their livelihoods. By enhancing economic opportunities, Plan International helps to break the cycle of poverty and improve the quality of life for children and their communities.
In times of disaster and conflict, Plan International responds with emergency relief efforts, providing essential supplies, medical care, and psychosocial support to affected populations. Their disaster risk reduction programs also help communities build resilience and prepare for future emergencies.
Plan International places a strong emphasis on advocacy and campaigning to influence policy changes and mobilize support for children's rights and gender equality. The organization's "Because I am a Girl" campaign is a notable example, raising awareness and driving action to address the unique challenges faced by girls around the world.
