Job Description

Counseling and Support: Social workers provide counseling, emotional support, and guidance to clients facing various challenges such as mental health issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, or life transitions.

They help clients develop coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, and access resources to address their needs

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessment: Social workers assess the needs and circumstances of individuals, families, or communities to determine the appropriate interventions and support services. This may involve conducting interviews, reviewing records, and administering assessments to identify strengths, challenges, and risk factors.

  • Counseling and Support: Social workers provide counseling, emotional support, and guidance to clients facing various challenges such as mental health issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, or life transitions. They help clients develop coping strategies, improve problem-solving skills, and access resources to address their needs.

  • Advocacy: Social workers advocate on behalf of their clients to ensure they receive appropriate services, resources, and support. This may involve representing clients in meetings with service providers, advocating for policy changes, or raising awareness about social justice issues affecting their clients' well-being.

  • Case Management: Social workers coordinate and monitor services and resources for their clients to ensure they receive comprehensive and effective support. This includes developing individualized care plans, making referrals to community agencies, and collaborating with other professionals involved in the client's care.

  • Crisis Intervention: Social workers provide crisis intervention services to individuals and families experiencing emergencies or acute stressors such as homelessness, trauma, or suicidal ideation. They assess risk, provide immediate support and safety planning, and facilitate access to emergency services as needed.

  • Education and Prevention: Social workers educate clients and communities about social issues, available resources, and strategies for self-advocacy and empowerment. They may facilitate workshops, support groups, or community outreach initiatives to promote health, well-being, and social change.

  • Documentation and Reporting: Social workers maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and interventions in accordance with legal and ethical standards. They also prepare reports and documentation required for funding, accreditation, or legal proceedings.

  • Collaboration: Social workers collaborate with other professionals, including psychologists, counselors, healthcare providers, educators, and law enforcement personnel, to coordinate services and provide holistic care to clients. They participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and collaborative planning efforts.

  • Professional Development: Social workers engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay informed about current research, best practices, and ethical standards in the field. This may involve attending conferences, pursuing advanced certifications, or participating in supervision and mentoring programs.

  • Ethical Practice: Social workers adhere to the profession's code of ethics and standards of practice, maintaining integrity, objectivity, and respect for client autonomy and confidentiality. They navigate complex ethical dilemmas with professionalism and seek supervision or consultation when necessary.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work,social sciences or related field

  • Atleast 2 years of working experience in community development initiatives

  • Familiar with Microsoft office (word,ppt, excel)

  • Proven organizational abilities, attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
