Job Description
This role is accountable for the execution and auditing of engineering strategies, maintenance plans, and governance practices. The incumbent will define engineering SOPs, oversee predictive maintenance, and ensure that repair/replacement decisions align with operational and legal requirements. This leadership position holds a legal 2.13.1 appointment and requires a Government Certificate of Competence (GCC). Responsibilities include coordinating mine planning, managing budgets and safety strategies, monitoring engineering performance metrics, and contributing to long-term resource and succession planning.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Lead execution of maintenance strategies and overhaul plans.
Determine maintenance delivery approach (repair/replace).
Approve engineering SOPs and ensure regulatory compliance.
Audit and assess operational projects and engineering standards.
Evaluate engineering viability and coach team members.
Manage condition monitoring and predictive maintenance processes.
Coordinate mine planning to meet production targets.
Oversee and manage budget, capex, and cost controls.
Drive safety strategies and compliance (SHE performance).
Plan long-term resource needs and manage talent development.
Maintain critical relationships with unions, contractors, and suppliers.
Interpret and apply legal and engineering standards in decision-making.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
Government Certificate of Competence (GCC)
Mine Manager Certificate of Competency (MMCC)
Professionally Certified Technologist (added advantage)
Experience:
Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in mining or engineering management
Competencies:
Strong knowledge of legal and engineering regulations
Strategic thinking and budget management
Strong leadership and coaching abilities
Experience in unionized environments
Proficient in predictive maintenance systems
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills
