Job Description
The Site Reliability Engineer - FedRAMP will partner closely with Confluent’s Cloud Architecture and Engineering teams to enhance the reliability and operational integrity of cloud services provided to federal clients. This role involves deploying and maintaining secure, resilient infrastructure in line with FedRAMP guidelines, monitoring and improving system performance, participating in incident response, and enhancing automation and tooling. The engineer will operate in a remote-first, highly collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on public sector data compliance and real-time data streaming.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with Cloud Architecture and Engineering teams to enhance the reliability of Confluent Cloud services for federal clients.
Ensure production systems and infrastructure changes are deployed with compliance to federal guidelines.
Participate in incident management using an “escort model” to meet FedRAMP data handling standards.
Maintain and improve critical monitoring systems to support proactive recovery and triage.
Follow and refine incident response and change management processes.
Build and maintain automation tools using scripting languages and infrastructure-as-code practices.
Support a rotating on-call schedule providing 24/7 service coverage.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
U.S. Citizenship (required due to federal data handling regulations).
3–5 years of relevant experience in Site Reliability or related engineering roles.
Strong expertise in cloud-native technologies and managing production cloud environments.
Solid understanding of distributed systems architecture and design.
Deep experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
Proficiency in monitoring tools and telemetry systems.
Strong scripting and automation skills (Go, Java, Python, Bash).
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, AWS CDK, Pulumi, etc.).
Team-oriented, self-driven, and capable of operating in a fully remote environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
