Job Description
Reporting to the Manager Corporate Affairs and Communication, the Senior Public Relations Officer is responsible for ensuring the positive promotion of the UNMC brand through various channels. The role includes planning and executing PR campaigns, managing media relations, preparing press releases and speeches, supporting corporate communication for senior leadership, and handling sensitive issues affecting the company’s image. The officer will coordinate the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, shape public opinion through strategic messaging, and contribute to stakeholder engagement efforts.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage media relations to ensure positive coverage and profiling of the company.
Develop and implement annual Public Relations and marketing plans.
Create and execute Public Relations strategies and campaigns.
Write PR content, including press releases, speeches, and internal communications.
Assist senior leadership with Op-Ed writing, speeches, and other external communication materials.
Analyze public opinion and plan events to enhance the company’s image.
Develop and oversee the implementation of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan.
Coordinate all PR and CSR-related activities for the company.
Track, evaluate, and report on the performance of PR and CSR campaigns.
Manage sensitive issues to uphold the company’s reputation and public trust.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree (Hons) in Marketing, Communications, Public Affairs, Social Sciences, Journalism, International Relations, Languages and Linguistics, Law, or any other relevant discipline.
A Master’s Degree in Marketing, Public Affairs, Business Administration, International Relations, or a related field is an added advantage.
Professional certification in marketing or public relations is desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in a reputable corporate entity, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or team leader role.
Experience in managing media relations (print, broadcast, and online) is an added advantage.
Familiarity with project management software or photo/video editing tools is a plus.
Competencies:
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
Creative thinking and effective problem-solving abilities.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Demonstrated ability to work across departments and with external stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong marketing and stakeholder engagement skills.
Good business acumen and strategic communication insight.
