Job Description
The Senior Coordinator, Procurement will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement plans, assessing needs in collaboration with technical teams, identifying and evaluating suppliers, and managing the entire procurement process in alignment with donor requirements and international standards. This role will involve stakeholder engagement, risk management, and quality assurance, as well as maintaining accurate procurement records and generating reports. The Coordinator will ensure all procured equipment and supplies meet international quality standards, and all procurement processes adhere to donor regulations such as those set by the Gates Foundation and WHO AFRO.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and execute procurement plans aligned with project goals and donor requirements
Assess procurement needs for lab equipment, consumables, and infrastructure
Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers for cost-effective procurement
Prepare and review tenders, RFQs, bid evaluations, and contracts
Ensure procurement timelines are met and deliveries are timely
Maintain compliance with donor regulations and international procurement standards
Liaise with government institutions, donors, and vendors
Provide technical guidance on procurement and supply chain policies
Conduct due diligence on suppliers to ensure reliability and compliance
Monitor procurement risks and implement mitigation strategies
Maintain procurement documentation and vendor databases
Generate procurement reports and audit documents
Document and share best practices and lessons learned
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
Master’s degree in Procurement and Logistics, Public Health, Health Economics, or Laboratory Sciences (preferred)
Experience:
5–7 years of procurement and supply chain management experience, preferably in the lab/diagnostic sector
Experience managing procurement of lab infrastructure, reagents, diagnostic devices, and biosafety materials
Familiarity with international health procurement practices and compliance
Past experience working with WHO, Global Fund, USAID, Gates Foundation, or UNICEF
Proficiency with electronic procurement systems
Key Competencies:
Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills
Knowledge of international quality and accreditation standards
Ability to manage risk and ensure compliance
Strong reporting and documentation skills
Commitment to values of impact, innovation, and integrity
