CIC General Insurance (U) Ltd is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Accountant to manage and oversee the IFRS 17 reporting process, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and timely financial disclosures. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in preparing financial and board reports, supporting regulatory submissions, and ensuring robust internal controls and cost management.

How to Apply
IFRS 17 Compliance & Financial Reporting
Prepare and validate monthly IFRS 17 financial data in coordination with the actuarial team.
Compile IFRS 17-compliant statutory and management financial reports.
Prepare and submit Risk-Based Supervision (RBS) returns in line with IFRS 17 standards.
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
Review the accuracy of regulatory and statutory returns on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Ensure investment compliance with the company’s investment policy and the Insurance Act.
Maintain and reconcile the company’s asset register with financial statements.
Internal Controls & Audit Coordination
Evaluate the effectiveness of financial and operational controls; recommend improvements.
Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure implementation of audit recommendations.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
Lead the preparation of the annual budget; analyze and report variances monthly.
Monitor and manage expenses to achieve a minimum of 10% cost savings and maintain an expense ratio not exceeding 40%.
Credit Management & Debt Recovery
Develop and enforce credit management strategies and policies.
Convene and implement recommendations of the credit control committee.
Monitor premium collections and bad debt provisions; present debtor reports to management.
Set and manage cash collection targets to maintain strong cash flow.
Management Reporting & Board Support
Review management and financial reports; support the preparation of board papers monthly and quarterly.
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with key external stakeholders including banks, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), and the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA).
General Duties
Approve payments and ensure correct cost center allocations.
Supervise, coach, and appraise team members.
Participate in departmental planning, budgeting, and cross-functional committees.
Oversee staffing, resource allocation, and leave management.
Carry out any other duties assigned by management.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (with a major in Accounting).
A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional Certification:
ACCA or CPA certification is mandatory.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years at a supervisory level.
