Job Description
Job Title: Senior Accountant- Uganda & Tanzania
Organization: d.light
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of d.light’s Uganda and Tanzania offices, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with financial regulations, and the delivery of timely financial reports. Reporting to the Finance Controller, the Senior Accountant will act as a key operational partner, supporting the implementation of internal controls and providing accurate financial insights to help achieve strategic objectives.
This position requires an accounting professional with strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Operations and Reporting
Manage daily accounting operations, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and journal adjustments.
Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and company policies.
Support the Finance Controller in reviewing financial data for accuracy and transparency.
Ensure compliance with Uganda and Tanzania tax regulations and other local statutory requirements.
Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets.
Accounts Payable, Receivable, and Working Capital
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely vendor payments and accurate customer invoicing.
Monitor working capital cycles and assist in optimizing cash flow management.
Prepare reconciliations for bank accounts, accounts receivable, and payable balances.
Audit, Compliance, and Risk Management
Coordinate with external auditors during audits, ensuring timely submission of required documents and resolution of audit findings.
Ensure compliance with internal policies, local tax laws, and accounting standards.
Support the Finance Controller in identifying and mitigating financial risks.
Process Improvement and Systems Optimization
Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Support the implementation of ERP systems and new financial tools, ensuring alignment with company-wide initiatives.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Act as a key partner to the Finance Controller and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment on financial objectives and operations.
Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.
Provide financial guidance and support to other teams, fostering a collaborative and solutions-oriented culture.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification is highly preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with demonstrated expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and general ledger management.
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus).
Strong understanding of IFRS and Ugandan tax regulations.
Experience working in dynamic, fast-paced environments, preferably within the renewable energy, FMCG, or related sectors.
