Job Description

The Sales Manager will be responsible for driving sales performance across East Africa by developing and executing effective strategies for business development, account management, and partnership engagement. This includes identifying market opportunities, managing key accounts, coordinating bids and tenders, and ensuring alignment between customer needs and Thales’ product and service offerings.
The ideal candidate will maintain close relationships with government institutions, telecom operators, and financial organizations, ensuring Thales is positioned as a trusted partner and preferred technology provider. The role requires a blend of technical understanding, commercial acumen, and cross-cultural communication skills, with frequent travel (up to 50%) within the region.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage sales operations for Thales IBS solutions across East Africa.

  • Develop, propose, and implement strategic account plans and market entry strategies.

  • Identify new business opportunities and position Thales as a key strategic partner for governments, banks, and telecommunications companies.

  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of bids and tenders in collaboration with the Bid Management Team.

  • Build and maintain high-level relationships with government officials and key decision-makers.

  • Interface with internal stakeholders, including the DGDI and AMEWA regional organization, to ensure alignment of customer needs and delivery capabilities.

  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer feedback to inform internal strategy.

  • Achieve assigned revenue and growth targets by driving sales across the IBS product portfolio.

  • Maintain accurate reporting and CRM updates, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Represent Thales at industry events, exhibitions, and customer meetings to enhance brand visibility and market intelligence.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field.

Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales, account management, or business development within the IT, telecommunications, or government sectors.

  • Proven track record of managing complex, long sales cycles and closing high-value deals.

  • Demonstrated experience working with African customers and familiarity with regional markets.

Core Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong ability to sell complex technology solutions and understand customer needs.

  • Excellent listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, including C-level executives.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (required for East Africa).

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and adaptable to dynamic business environments.

  • Willingness to travel 50% or more across the region.
